TBBench: A Micro-Benchmark Suite for Intel Threading Building Blocks
نویسنده
چکیده
Task-based programming is becoming the state-of-the-art method of choice for extracting the desired performance from multi-core chips. It expresses a program in terms of lightweight logical tasks rather than heavyweight threads. Intel Threading Building Blocks (TBB) is a task-based parallel programming paradigm for multi-core processors. The performance gain of this paradigm depends to a great extent on the efficiency of its parallel constructs. The parallel overheads incurred by parallel constructs determine the ability for creating large-scale parallel programs, especially in the case of fine-grain parallelism. This paper presents a study of TBB parallelization overheads. For this purpose, a TBB micro-benchmarks suite called TBBench has been developed. We use TBBench to evaluate the parallelization overheads of TBB on different multi-core machines and different compilers. We report in detail in this paper on the relative overheads and analyze the running results. Keywords—TBB, Micro-Benchmarks, Multi-Core, Parallel Overhead

Comparison of Three Popular Parallel Programming Models on the Intel Xeon Phi
Systems with large numbers of cores have become commonplace. Accordingly, applications are shifting towards increased parallelism. In a general-purpose system, applications residing in the system compete for shared resources. Thread and task scheduling in such a multithreaded multiprogramming environment is a significant challenge. In this study, we have chosen the Intel Xeon Phi system as a mo...

Shared memory multicore processor technology is pervasive in mainstream computing. This new architecture challenges programmers to write code that scales over these many cores to exploit the full computational power of these machines. OpenMP and Intel Threading Building Blocks (TBB) are two of the popular frameworks used to program these architectures. Recently, OpenCL has been defined as a sta...

متن کاملIntel threading building blocks - outfitting C++ for multi-core processor parallelism
Interestingly, intel threading building blocks outfitting c for multi core processor parallelism that you really wait for now is coming. It's significant to wait for the representative and beneficial books to read. Every book that is provided in better way and utterance will be expected by many peoples. Even you are a good reader or not, feeling to read this book will always appear when you fin...
متن کاملResilient Work Stealing
Future generations of processors will exhibit an increase of faults over their lifetime, and it becomes increasingly expensive to solve the resulting reliability issues purely at the hardware level. We propose to model computations in terms of restartable task graphs in order to improve reliability at the software level. As a proof of concept, we present Cobra, a novel design for a shared-memor...
